In chapter 4 of Genesis we come across two brothers . The elder brother name is Cain and the name of the younger one was Abel. It came about in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the LORD of the fruit of the ground. Abel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And the LORD had regard for Abel and for his offering; but for Cain and for his offering He had no regard. So Cain became very angry and his countenance fell.Thus we see two brothers,who were from the  same parents bringing their offerings to please LORD.It should be noted that, LORD first accepted Abel and later his offering.Similarly before rejecting Cain's offering LORD rejected Cain.So it is necessary for us to understand that before we offer anything to God we have to make ourself pleasing to God.Because God see us before our offering.If we are pleasing in His sight our offering would be accepted.Though the poor widow could give two mites as her offering ,but her offering was considered more than others for her offering was from her whole heart to God and she was never minding about what she will have to live upon.(Luke 21:1-4)We see in 2 Corinthians 9:7 "God loves cheerful giver"Thus God give importance to the giver and not to what is given.We read in Proverbs 15:8, "The LORD detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases him".In Isaiah 1:11"The multitude of your sacrifices-- what are they to me?" says the LORD. "I have more than enough of burnt offerings, of rams and the fat of fattened animals; I have no pleasure in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats."In Jeremiah 6:20"What do I care about incense from Sheba or sweet calamus from a distant land? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable; your sacrifices do not please me."In Micah 6:7"Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of olive oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?" Thus if we are not right with God our offering would be of no importance to God.Cain might have done every little thing to make his offering more delightful in the sight of God.He might have known that Abel was going to offer a gift to God so he might have determined to make his offering more charming than Abel's.Thus he forget to make himself perfect or pleasing in sight of God and focused everything on his gift.Now Cain has toiled much and was acceptng approval from God but was rejected.This rejection turn into anger and was directed to a person who received the approval of God,to a person who was his own brother.

 

                       God knew that what Cain is about to do. But God Who dont want anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance spoke to Cain in verse 6 and 7. Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it." Genesis 4:6-7.Thus God spoke His words to Cain who was about to sin.The word of God has the power to stop someone from sinning.David says in Psalms 119:11 "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." It is the word of God which can help us from sinning against God if we heed to it.

 

                       LORD asked three question all of which wanted to give Cain another chance. But Cain was not looking for another chance,he did not heed to the words of God and he was very angry with his brother. The reason why LORD did not accepted Cain’s offering is because he was not doing what was right. LORD told Cain what will happen if he would not do what is right.

 

                       1.Sin is crouching at your door in another word sin lies at  your door-Since ,Cain was not doing what was right, sin was lying just next to the door. This door is one which when opened would give entry for sin into the life of Cain .Similarly if we  are the person who does not do what is right or having a desire to do what is right then all our prayers, worships and offering would be useless because it will be not be accepted by God and to do sin would be a  very easy task.It would be just next to our door of life.

 

                       2. It desires to have you-We should know that sin is always seeking us.It like to have a relationship with us.But God’s words says in Romans 6:12,

 

                   Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.

 

                   There are evil desires in sin once it enter our life it try to fulfill those evil desire through us.When sin enter into a person's life it bring it friend along with it.Do you want to know who is the friend of sin?Let us see the scripture for the answer.

 

                    Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in that way death came to all people, because all sinned--Romans 5:12.

 

                    Yes, it is death which is the friend of sin whom he bring along with it when it enters a person’s life.

 

                    3. but you must rule over it-God want each one of us to rule over sin .God’s word say be holy just as I Am holy.But many a time we tried to rule over sin we always see ourselves failing each and every time.So what is the solution for that let us give our attention to Revelation 3:20 which says,

 

                     Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.

 

                     Here is the word of Jesus and He is the solution for the problem discussed.Yes,we need to bring Jesus into our life.in another word we need to open the door of our life  to Jesus our King of kings.Why do we need Jesus ?In John 10:10 Jesus says “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full”. And in Romans 5:21 we read so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

 

Conclusion

 

           Right now two of them are outside your door. Both of them want have relationship with you.One of them is crounching at your door and it is desiring you very much.It wanted you to fulfill its evil desire.It will also bring it friend death once you open the door for it.  Another One is Jesus our savior who will bring eternal life and have the ability of ruling over sin.When He will reign in your life grace will reign in your life .Now it is your choose to whom you will open the door.I want you to bring Jesus into your life He is able to save you from sin.If you allow Jesus to rule over your life you could rule over sin through Jesus and will enjoy eternal life.
